First Impressions That Last: Why Welcoming New Hires Matters More Than Ever

An employee's entire experience at a new workplace is shaped by their initial few days and weeks there. Imagine yourself entering a new setting, not knowing where you fit in, not wanting to ask questions, and generally feeling a little disoriented. For many new hires, that's the reality, and regrettably, it can have a big effect on their productivity, engagement, and even whether they decide to stay.

The goal is to provide a welcoming, inclusive, and stimulating onboarding process that encourages a feeling of connection and belonging right away.

So, what can you do to enhance newly joined employee relationships?


Start pre-boarding prior to their first day:  Forward introductory emails, exchange pertinent details, and compile pre-employment documentation digitally. Establish a friendly and welcoming environment right away.


Set-up their workspace: Make sure their desk has all the necessities for them to get started right away, such as a computer, office supplies, and a customised welcome kit filled with branded goods.
